Igor Konieczny is Dean of Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of University of Gdansk and Medical University of Gdansk (IFB). He is Professor at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology and leads Laboratory on Molecular Biology. His research expertize considers molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and microbiology. The major research topic is the analysis of DNA metabolism of extra-chromosomal genetic elements in bacteria with particular emphasis on DNA replication initiation, partitioning and post segregation killing systems. His research group investigates molecular mechanisms for DNA replication of broad host range antibiotic resistance factors and for activities of chaperone proteins and proteases in bacteria. He teaches Molecular Biology of Nucleic Acids. Prof. Konieczny was awarded by European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) YIP Programmes.  He also got prestigious awards from Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) and Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He is Committee Member of Biomedicine and Molecular Biosciences Domain (BMB) of European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST). Prof. Konieczny is also a member of grant evaluation committees of Polish National Research Center and Foundation for Polish Science.
